POI: Love and Marriage by astolat

Fandom: Person of Interest
Characters/Pairings: John Reese/Harold Finch, Lionel Fusco, Jos Carter, Bear
Rating: Explicit
Length: 4697
Creator Links: astolat on AO3, silverkat1620 on Audiofic Archive, kalakirya on Audiofic Archive
Themes: Marriage of Convenience, Friends to lovers

Summary: "Harold," John said, "are you asking me to marry you for your money?"
"Well, Mr. Reese," Harold said, "given how much of it you've spent already, I don't really see how you can complain."

Reccer's Notes: This story is deeply based in canon and yet, despite having only a partial grasp of the show and never having watched more than a couple of seasons, I still find it easy to follow, and it packs an emotional punch. The reason for the marriage of convenience this time is financial, to strengthen John's cover story and explain a recent massive outlay of funds. This isn't one of those stories where there's a prolonged slow burn after they marry - despite the pragmatic reason and their initial obliviousness, they're kissing like it's their job even before the celebrant pronounces them hitched. The characterisation is perfect, and there's a wonderful original character in Miriam Hechel. This fic is a gut punch in the best way on a number of levels - from unexpected attendees at the wedding, to John's catharsis afterwards, to the very end when it seems someone powerful in the shadows made sure their wedding day was undisturbed. It's a lovely story, beautifully written, and there are no less than two excellent podfics.

Old Guard: Diplomatic Complications by Sixthlight

Fandom: The Old Guard
Pairings: Nicolò/Yusuf
Characters: Nicolò, Yusuf, Andromache, Quynh, Nile, OCs
Rating: Explicit
Length: 14,400 words
Creator Links: [archiveofourown.org profile] Sixthlight
Theme: Marriage of convenience, Diplomatic marriage, Complete AU, Historical AU

Summary: There can be no misinterpretation or confusion on Yusuf’s part when what Duke Nicolò says is “But I didn’t want a husband, what does my brother think he’s doing?”

Reccer's Notes: Arranged marriages may be common in wealthy families -- but when the groom doesn't know a marriage has been arranged, and certainly doesn't want one, it throws a wrench in the works. Nicolò rejects the idea of marriage, and Yusuf can only accept that -- but everyone around them really, really want the two men to be married. Yusuf doesn't know how to do the seduction that Nile suggests, but a friendship slowly grows between them, and then more, which leads to a thoroughly satisfying ending.

Content Notes: None

Old Guard: A Fine Arrangement by sharkie335

Fandom: The Old Guard
Pairings: Yusuf/Nicolò, background Andromache/Quynh, hint of potential Nile/Booker
Characters: Nicolò, Yusuf, Andromache, Quynh, Booker, Nile, OCs
Rating: Explicit
Length: 24,600 words
Creator Links: [archiveofourown.org profile] sharkie335
Theme: Marriage of convenience, Complete AU, Historical AU, Diplomatic marriage

Summary: Genoa managed to destroy Tunisia's navy, leaving the royal family to sue for peace. A treaty was struck, and Yusuf was offered in marriage to the King of Genoa's second child, the Princess Veneranda.
At least, that was the plan.

Reccer's Notes: Yusuf has no choice but to make a political marriage to bring peace between Genoa and Tunisa... but when the bride-to-be runs away with her lover, Nicolò it forced to become the substitute marriage partner. Yusuf and Nicolò find they are well-pleased by these developments... until they learn that Nicolò's father and brother have decided to hold Nicolò's mother for ransom. Throw in escape under cover of night, each enjoying copious amounts of married sex, a touch of palace intrigue as Nicolò doesn't know if his family's actions will reflect on his position, and we have a thoroughly enjoyable story.

Content Notes: This is an alpha/omega universe, but the story doesn't make a big deal about that; it's treated as just ordinary life.

ATLA: Lu Ten's Hawk by thetrickisnotminding

Fandom: Avatar The Last Airbender
Pairings/Characters: Zuko, Toph, Lu Ten, Sokka, Katara, Aang, Suki, Hakoda, Ty Lee
Rating: Author did not rate it, I'd call it G
Length: 20,008 words
Creator Links: thetrickisnotminding
Theme: Marriage of convenience, arranged marriage, fork-in-the-road AU, diplomatic marriage, disability (blindness), families of choice,

Summary: In some facet of reality, there /was/ a way to help Lu Ten. And so the Avatar woke into a world where no one was questing for the Avatar yet, because certain soldier boys had different methods in their march home.

Reccer's Notes: I love this take on the different ATLA characters. Zuko is trying so hard in this to both prove himself and make up for how terrible his father is, but he's ultimately still the awkward turtle-duck we know and love. His "proposal" to Toph basically amounts to "you give our side a ton of money, I'll take you away from your over-protective parents and let you boss me around." Which she LOVES and takes full advantage of. Being a prospective princess does absolutely nothing to stop Toph from being a goblin-child and it's beautiful.

Content Notes: Some reference to suicidal behaviour; canon-typical reference to child abuse, war, and genocide

So I was intending to do the fic meme post but I’ve not had the focus to finish it alas (not helped by being low energy, then being thrown off today by mum’s bitchiness and a scam phone call again). As such I’ve not done as much these past days as I hoped (I’ve not even watched the new Alien Earth yet).

But this is a good thing post so I’m not gonna dwell on that nonsense.

First as hoped the Waterparks set got added to iplayer, yay! It was pretty good and I am jealous of the people that saw them Monday. Both because it was in the Underworld (a tiny venue, that I went there once to MCR) though I had heard it was utter chaos cause pretty much everyone was vip. They also had the metalcore hoodie as merch which is a want! I’m so annoyed cause I saw it on Vinted the other day and it was in my size but I missed it cause it went so quick.

(And speaking of missing out Micheal Clifford did a thrift store thing with merch but I completely missed out due to the timings, damnit!)

But back to parx! Seapeekay was lucky enough to go to both gigs (damnit!)o there’s a new Geoffpeekay pic! Yipee! If there’s one of him with Otto or Awsten he hasn’t posted them yet. But ahh!

Then my twitter for you page actually did something useful. It shown 5 Seconds Of Summer dressed as Star Wars characters. Luke is obviously Luke, Calum is Chewie, Micheal is Han and Ashton is Leia *(and he is REALLY pulling the look off). I saw the first pic first then looked and found the second.

So I thought, oh cool, they dressed up to go to The Force Awakens premiere, that’s fun. And then I saw a clip which led me to this. And you see that first pic? They’re not just sitting there being interviewed, across from them are the actual actors from The Force Awakens. How this happened I have NO idea, but I love Harrison Ford’s reaction to Micheal’s first question. It’s so funny too seeing how everyone is being so vague, cause obviously no one knew anything back then.

But still, crazy.

Yesterday was The Thursday Murder Club which we watched and it was good. I’d not read the book but I certainly found it entertaining (and yay llamas!) and I hope they adapt the other books cause the actors all work well together and o wanna see more of them.

Today there’s a network test for the new sonic racing game so I just went on it. I did a Grand Prix and it’s pretty much what you expect from a racing game. However it has some fun things. The second lap of each race is a completely different level (chosen by the person in first, between a specific or random course) which adds a level of randomness. Then the final race of the Grand Prix is one lap on each of the 3 previous courses. There’s also a racer who is chosen as a rival, so you have to beat them as a fun thing.

Obviously I went with Shadow and managed to come in first somehow (only just and I didn’t expect to!)

I might go back on it to try other things later.

And speaking of Shadow he’s the two Shadow’s I got Tuesday(I really need to watch sonic prime.

Plans for the weekend
*Watch Alien Earth
*Watch the final Cabinet Of Curiosities
*Go on Two Point museum (for the summer event and Dredge collab!)
*fic (if I don’t get distracted)
*Some more Wednesday
*Maybe do the fic meme

I end with an eepy sleepy

An hour ago the police dropped by to warn the party that a bear had been spotted roaming the backstreet, that we should exercise caution, the groom nodding with all due earnestness befitting the situation, though he was wearing a red clown nose just then, had a juggling pin tucked under his arm.

A Little About Me

Name: Georgiana or Georgie. Neither is my legal name, but they are what I use here and in most situations.

Age: Forty-one.

I mostly post about: Entries may consist of anything from short summaries of my day, to surveys, to essays on various topics, to interesting links and quotes that I find, along with my commentary on them. Lately, I have been writing reviews of opera recordings from the 1950's and earlier. I have no interest in politics and modern celebrities. I wish to keep my journal light and happy as much as possible.

My hobbies are: studying dandyism, Received Pronunciation, the Regency, and the Italian language, reading, writing, cooking, baking, playing cards and dice, and enjoying warm weather.

My Other Interests include: coffees, teas, antique menswear and accessories (usually Edwardian), chamber and classical music, pre-1950's opera singers, plants and gardening, crafts, and history and nature documentaries. I love wit, wordplay, and sarcastic humour without vulgarity. I also love cats.

My fandoms are: I don't have any.

I'm looking to meet people who: are positive, who share my interests and can introduce me to some new ones, and who enjoy at least some elements of high culture. While the minimum age I will add is twenty-one, I tend to get along with those who are older than I, particularly seniors. I am also single and searching, but since this isn't a dating community, I'll just say that you can find more about that in one of the sticky entries in my journal.

My posting schedule tends to be: It varies, from a few posts in a given week to a few in a single day. Often, I post what I call filler entries toward the end of the month. These are entries posted on one date but for another. I try to post a few entries per week.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: minors (I prefer at least over twenty-one), depression and/or anxiety (posted often), bad self-esteem, life drama, recreational drugs, religion or politics (posted often), a lot of bad grammar and spelling, and frequent obscenities. Please note that I am totally blind, so if you mostly post images, I won't be able to comment on them, as I cannot see them.

Before adding me, you should know: I have no time for political correctness, lies, or drama. While I always try to be civil during discussions, I share my opinion without reservations. If you are easily offended, please do not add me. I have a very dry and witty sense of humour. Otherwise, feel free to read my profile and/or posts and add me if you wish. I will most likely reciprocate. I also comment when I have something to say, but there are times when I don't read my friends' page for awhile, and I am trying to change that.

The Friday Five for 29 August 2025: Trash Questions

These questions were written by [personal profile] spiralsheep.

1. Does where you live have regular doorstep rubbish collections or do you have to take your trash somewhere else?

2. Do you separate recycling? What sort of stuff gets recycled from your household?

3. Do you take things you don't need to charity shops, or give them away online, or sell them secondhand, or ...?

4. Do you pick up litter in your local area, from streets or trails or play areas or parks? Have you ever found anything interesting discarded or lost in a public space?

5. Are there "repair cafés" near you to help mend fixable items? Have you ever been helped by a community repair service or volunteered for one? Do you do any other kind of upcycling?

Copy and paste to your own journal, then reply to this post with a link to your answers. If your journal is private or friends-only, you can post your full answers in the comments below.

If you'd like to suggest questions for a future Friday Five, then do so on DreamWidth or LiveJournal. Old sets that were used have been deleted, so we encourage you to suggest some more!

Star Trek AOS: For the Greater Good by reeby10 / cookiemom6067

Fandom: Star Trek AOS (Reboot)
Pairings/Characters: Kirk/Spock
Rating: G
Length: 1832 words; 11:27 minutes
Creator Links: [archiveofourown.org profile] reeby10 ; [archiveofourown.org profile] cookiemom6067
Theme: Marriage of convenience

Summary: The Enterprise makes contact with an alien race who will only speak with a couple as representatives. Jim figures it's not a big deal to pretend he and Spock are together, but it turns out they play the role a little too well.

Reccer's Notes: Sliding in with one last rec for this theme. I'd forgotten about this story, but I happened to listen to the podfic this morning. It's a great example of a short marriage of convenience story that relies on what we already know to be a strong friendship between Kirk and Spock. In this story, a diplomatic mission requires Kirk and Spock to pretend to be a couple, but their clear bond (in the general sense, not the Vulcan sense) leads the planet's representatives to offer to hold a marriage ceremony for our favorite Starfleet officers. I like when outsiders are able to see the heart of things and call it like it is. This is such a sweet and gentle fic with a big helping of optimism. I'm sure someone needs that today. The podfic is also clearly and steadily read by cookiemom.
