In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

Ah yes, this is one of my favourite ones to answer! I could talk about fanworks I love all day long. And probably most of the night (yes I should be sleeping, but I started a 100k fic at 11pm because of course I did). And the next day... ah yes my point is I love to flail about fantastic fanworks.

I tend to try to to not do only fics for this, but honestly this year I have mostly consumed fics. So I'm just going to do five fics I found and loved in the past year.

5 Fics I Found Last Year

No Matter How Far Away You Roam by lady_ragnell [BBC Merlin, Arthur/Merlin, Explicit] - Super cute fake marriage/modern setting AU. The fake marriage trope is done perfectly here, and I love how their whole families are part of this, it's funny and sweet in equal amounts.

Love's a Battlefield (and the Navy Did Not Train Steve for This Shit) by cyerus [Hawaii Five-0, Danny/Steve, Mature] - Another fake relationship fic (all the fluff), this time in a neat little alternate meetings package. Basically, Steve makes up a fake boyfriend called Danny, and when he gets talked into bringing said boyfriend to a thing... well, he practically kidnaps Danny. Oh and the characterizations in this are spot on, so Danny is bitching the whole time. What more could you want?

spring, summer, spring by yogurtspun [The Witcher, Geralt/Jaskier, Explicit] - A wonderful, heartwarming fic where Geralt and Jaskier fall in love to their backdrop of different holiday celebrations. The writing is great. There's a very healthy dose of pining. There's smut. There's love confessions. The best kind of fic, really.

Gadarene by unpossible [BBC Merlin, Arthur/Merlin, Explicit] - I don't read that much slavefic anymore but I really enjoyed this one. It includes so many elements from the show but reimagined in a different setting, Merlin's magic is still a secret, and most importantly they grow fiercely protective of each other as they slowly fall in love. There's also a good dose of one of my fav elements of slavefic trope - miscommunication because the owner is new to having a slave.

ashes to the ground (orphaned work) [Kingsman/The Smoke crossover, Dennis&Eggsy, Harry/Eggsy, Explicit] - As I watched The Smoke, I found myself wishing Dennis was related to Eggsy so Eggsy could swoop in and offer safety the way Harry did for Eggsy. And would you know, this fic existed! It does get quite dark as it looks back on things that happened in Dennis' past, so do heed the warnings, but it's also a fic about how things get better, how Dennis find out that his cousin is a spy, and it has a little Eggsy/Harry sweetness as the cherry on top. Mostly everything I could want from this niche crossover. :)
