Long time, no see, DW friends. It's me, ragingrainbow - my Tumblr got hacked a while back and I couldn't recover it so I decided to change my name across platforms so everything matched. And it was apparently time for an update, because ragingrainbow seemed to be associated with some Minecraft thing now?
I've had a few years of feeling like I was falling out of fandom and just generally feeling meh about stuff (RL happens, and all that), but now I feel like I have the spoons and am ready to jump back into things again!
I've decided to join in the Snowflake Challenge in January, in the hope that it will help me fall back in love with fandom, and maybe find a new obsession or two. It's been a few years since I did one of these (I think I started in 2022 but only did a few days?), so I'm looking forward to it!
Not sure what else I will so fandom wise in 2026, I'll take it as it comes. But I've been feeling more and more nostalgic for the LJ days of fandom so it feels right to come back to DW and see what community remains here! Otherwise I mostly do fandom on Discord these days; social media feels less and less suited to forming the kind of connection I want from fandom, especially since I'm not a fan of so much of it being video format these days. I want text and pretty pictures!
Hoping there are still some old friends around on here, and I'm looking forward to making new friends as well! :)
Edit:
Aaaand it turns out that this just pretty much answered Day 1 of Snowflake for this year so I am just going to edit this a bit and count it as day 1 cause I am currently dealing with a multi-day migraine bleurgh.

Day 1
The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

Date: 2025-12-30 09:01 am (UTC)Moooood, for yeeears. I'm not sure if I have the spoons for it, tho. For me it's mostly been youtube, podcasts and games. And then Dan & Phil recently officially announced that they've actually been in a relationship the entire time and that ate my brain for at least a month* and I'm now happily following along with that nonsense.
As for RL, there's been some changes since I stopped blogging, the biggest and most recent (as of last year) one being that S and I moved to a ground floor apartment. It's been brilliant, having a kitchen right on the same level as me, and one that we don't have to share with the in-laws. Other than that, 'managing' my health keeps me pretty busy, with an average of ~3 appointments a week (two of which I can now go to on foot, with a simple 2min walk down the road)
Haven't really participated in snowflake for years, and I don't think that'll change, but we'll see
*it also got me to backread my journal from ~2013 with the entire repeatedly-failing-to-see-FOB saga, which, yeah, in the background of those entries there's frequently my 'boys on the radio'-tag. weird to think it's been over a decade

Date: 2026-01-02 10:33 pm (UTC)Oh that's good news about the apartment! Sounds like a good upgrade esp with being close to appointments. It takes so much time out of day when it needs a whole little journey and recovering from that as well as appointment in my experience...
Omg I SAW about Dan & Phil! It's never even completely been one of my fandoms (other than being lowkey into Dan for a bit really early on), but gosh that has been inescapable and fun enough to partly eat my brain too! It's just nice to see them open and happy and apparently not filtering themselves one bit haha.
Oh don't remind me about it being over a decade... I am reminded daily, mostly by the fact that my now teenage son is nearly taller than me. What happened to my BABY?! Time went woooosh.
Idk if I truly have the spoons for Snowflake either but I feel like I need to engage myself in something for my mental health, and making rl friends when you're not working and can't leave house much is difficult so. Familiar, safe fandom spaces it is! Hopefully I won't forget how to human a couple of days into January like I did last time I tried this...
(Btw I lost my signal contacts/chats with a phone mishap a while back but totally do feel free to send me a message or DM if you want to reconnect there or anywhere else.)

Date: 2026-01-03 09:14 am (UTC)That is mindboggling, seeing how the one time I actually met him he still was literally a baby.
Yeah, I don't really go into the fannish content (other than video of them reacting to fan-made content), but I did let the YT algorithm take me on a nostalgia tour through a lot of videos from their back catalogue (most of which had "this hits different now"-type comments under them). AO3 hasn't seen me log in for years and years at this point, and my tumblr account has similarly fallen out of use.
Best of luck with Snowflake, I do hope you get to connect to some shiny new people. I somehow managed to befriend both my new physio and the ppl we hired to clean our apartment (we're really lucky that our rent is moderate enough to leave room in the budget for this, and it's been an absolute godsend). Not exactly the same as friend-friends, but lovely ppl to chat with / lose social spoons to ^^
Okay, DM incoming ^^

Date: 2026-01-05 03:34 am (UTC)I enjoyed your post, I am still a LiveJournal hanger-on, into harry potter fandom, but I ship all the ships and the people who ship them!
Your cats are lovely. I always enjoy finding a fellow cat-lover!

Date: 2026-01-22 08:42 pm (UTC)I gave up on LJ some years ago, but I do always enjoy meeting a cat lover! :D I still read HP fic now and then too even if I'm not actively in the fandom. There's some really good fic there though.
