Found this in my flist, stole it cause I'm bored. :)

Do you read or write fanfiction?
Guilty on both charges. :P

When did you first start reading/writing fanfiction?
When I was 14... So almost 14 years ago.

What was your first fandom?
Various boybands... lol. My first slash fandoms were The Sentinel (for reading) and Lord of the Rings (for writing) though - and then I realized people wrote boyband slash and slashed in my precious fandom too hehe.

First ship?
Obviously Jim/Blair for The Sentinel, and Frodo/Sam, Merry/Pippin for LotR (I like hobbits. They have big feet. ;)). Actually, I guess Frodo/Sam were TECHNICALLY my first ship, since I shipped them before I knew what shipping was haha.

What website do you use most?
For fic, Archive of Our Own. Pretty sure my most used website in general is Google though, couldn't write without it! xD

What do you think of Fanfiction.net?
I avoid it like the plague unless someone actually recs me something from there (and I TRUST said person). Well, I do go there sometimes in search for something to laugh at.

What fandoms have you written in?
Erm, let's see... Lord of the Rings, Vampire Chronicles, Adam Lambert, Hanson. And Westlife, O-Town, Backstreet Boys when I was younger. I think that's it? I read in so many fandoms but write in so few heh.

Pairings?
I will honestly read any pairing if the fic is good. I'm open to writing any pairing, too, but the need to find it inspiring and know at least basic information about the characters limits that. :(

Any fandoms you would like to write in?
Currently, Queer as Folk and White Collar. I constantly find new fandoms inspiring, but it's hard to find the time to get into new ones when the current muses are being chatty! (Also, larger and established fandoms sorta scare me.)

Do reviews affect how you write in any way?
It depends. If it's well thought out it might inspire me to take something in a different direction, or add a sequel or whatever. And it does keep me inspired to some degree, I mean it's always nice to know that someone read and appreciated your story. The amount of feedback doesn't affect it, however, and it never affects what pairings or subjects I write. (Seriously, I've written plenty of rare pairs, if it inspires, it inspires.)

Do you use a beta?
Of course. And I like discussing plot ideas with people to help them grow, too. :)

What ratings do you read/write?
Everything, for both.

What warnings have you used on your fiction?
What warnings have I not used would probably be an easier question to answer... lol.

Do you have any squicks?
Erm, scat and bad smells. And humans having sex with animals (when it's not somehow part of the fandom or roleplay, obv). Other than that, I'll read pretty much anything IF IT'S WELL WRITTEN. If it's not well written... well, I have many, many squicks. I think my single biggest reason for backing out of reading fic is poorly written D/s. Seriously, if it's not safe, sane and consensual, and the point of the story is not the lack of said basics of D/s (I do have a soft spot for stories purposefully exploring unhealthy D/s relationships and their effects), it really, seriously, squicks me. I get all frightened and protective for the poor sub that's stuck with an asshole Dominant and I really can't find it sexy.

Do you Role-play online? If so, what?
I used to, it was mostly original roleplays though, but I did do Vampire Chronicles roleplay for a while.

Have you ever stolen something from another person's work?
Nope. I've been inspired by plenty, and I've pilfered a few basic ideas and twisted them into something new, but I'd never steal someone's actual work. I've had it happen to me, and someone taking credit for something you wrote isn't nice.

Favorite fandom to write/read?
Write: Erm, it's probably the one I've written least in, but Vampire Chronicles. I wish Rice wasn't so against fanfic so that fandom could be bigger and more visible, because I think her characters are wonderful to play with.
Read: At the moment, White Collar. So much glorious D/s fic to devour. <3 And I adore that there's a really predominant OT3 in the fandom, since I love polyamory relationships, and fandom needs more of those!

Favorite pairing?
Ehhhh... omg, how do I choose? I think for RPF Adam/Tommy, and for fictional characters Lestat/Armand.

Favorite writer/writers?
It'd be impossible to list fav writer's in every single fandom I read (seriously, I WILL read ANY fandom if the fic in question is good), so let's just do Adam fandom ones since that's where I'm most active atm. [livejournal.com profile] silentdescant, [livejournal.com profile] the_minx_17, [livejournal.com profile] blue_soaring, [livejournal.com profile] argylepiratewd, [livejournal.com profile] bexless, [livejournal.com profile] sulwen. I'm sure I missed someone. I hate listing favorites. :/ Let's say, if I ever feedback you telling you you're an amazing writer, I never lie, so that's really what I think! :3

How long should a chapter be?
At least 1k words. Preferably longer. I hate when a story is divided into pitifully short chapters. I also prefer chapters to be a somewhat similar length, I know it's not always possible but I find it easier to read that way for some reason. Idk, I'm weird.

Do you write/read drabbles?
I love drabbles. \o/ When they're proper 100/200/300 etc word drabbles/double drabbles/ triple drabbles, whatever. Pethate of mine when someone calls a random no of words tiny story a drabble. The whole point of a drabble if limiting yourself to a set number of words ffs! I wish I could motivate myself to write more of them, I feel like it really helps you identify and cut useless stuff from your writing. Drabble challenge, anyone? :D

Any fandoms you avoid?
Nope. Most fandoms I only read through recs or, probably more frequently, following tags for my kinks on AO3, but there are none I avoid. If it's well written fic I'll read it. Personally, I sort of think that's important for growth as a writer, just reading everything you can get your hands on.

Pairings you avoid?
None. If the pairing works within the story, I'm ok with anything. I'm not very protective of my ships or upset at rival ships or anything - it's fantasy, everything can exist together like a big happy orgy, it's all good! Actually, I sort of have a thing for unlikely pairings, as my favorite parings may tell you...

Warnings you avoid?
If there is a warning for m/m sex, gay sex, or anything like that, I am probably not going to read it. I mean, seriously? Your pairing lists two men, you're writing slash, do you really not think your reader expects gay sex in it? Also, I dont think gay sex warrants a separate warning from just plain old sex, and if you think it does, I automatically assume that you don't write gay sex well. Sorry, but I just happen to think that implying gay sex is somehow worse than just sex, especially in a slash fandom where people expect to read about men fucking, is offensive.
Other than that, it's more author's notes that put me off. Like, warning for OOC? Why is it fanfic instead of original fic if you're not at least trying to portray a canon character, or have an interesting, plot-related reason for your character being OOC?! Or author's saying they know nothing of the subject, did no research, whatever... seriously, if you can't even open Google and spend a little time reading about something you want to put in your story then why are you expecting me to use my time reading your story instead of one by a writer who puts some effort into their writing? I also sideeye things like "I know this isn't very good but...", and begging for feedback or specifying that you only want positive feedback. ... And look at that, this answer turned into a rant lol.

Do the number of reviews tell how good a story is?
Eh, not really. I think mostly it tells you if the pairing and/or author is popular within in fandom. And it's not always the most popular author's that are the best, sometimes its just the most active or the ones that pimp themselves most. A lot of people will leave comments saying something was good when... it's not.
The quality of the feedback tells you so much more than the amount. One long, enthusiastic review means more than 30 "I loved it", imo. So much love when people tell you exactly what they love and you can tell from the feedback that they god really into the story. <3

What do you think of Mary Sues?

*wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
Lol, ok, seriously, unless you're actually a pre-teen girl, there is NO EXCUSE. Really, I have no interest in reading your dirty fantasies from your (incredibly gorgeous, talented, successful, powerful and weirdly named alter-ego's) POV.
And you know what's even worse than a Mary Sue? When a canon character reads like a Mary Sue. Urgh, stick to the role-playing, please.

Have you ever flamed someone?
No. And I never would. You don't know what goes on in that person's life, and flaming is mean and unnecessary.

Have you ever been flamed?
Yes. *shrug* Honestly, if people want to waste their time reading something they don't like and then write me a message about how much they really don't like it instead of just hitting the back button and reading something they actually enjoy, then be my guest. "The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference", as they say. :3

I think my single biggest reason for backing out of reading fic is poorly written D/s.

Hell yes! I once saw a story with an author's note saying something along the lines of, "This isn't as hardcore as you might be used to because I like my characters to have consent!" I made good use of the < blink > tag at my journal, and the words "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK"?

Reading your answers was really interesting because we have similar thoughts. It's kind of neat.

That... sounds weirdly familiar. I think I might have come across the same fic, or someone with a similar warning. Made me facepalm - what do people think safewords/gestures are for?!

And I read one recently as well that went something like this:

sub: What's my safeword?
Dom: You don't need a safeword.
sub: Okay! :D Tie me up!
*sub gets tied up and Dom does whatever stuff*
sub: Stop!
Dom: Shut up or I'll gag you. I'm the boss and we'll stop when I'm done.

Me: O___________________O Abuse!!!!!!

It makes me rage when otherwise quite nice fic get ruined by lack of basic research about how to do D/s consent properly. :/

(And let's not get started on that fic that called a safe word 'the alarm word' >.<)

Yay, glad we have similar thoughts! I guess that's sort of common when people enjoy each other's fics. I always love reading everyone else's thoughts on fic and fandom though.

I don't remember what fandom that particular story was from - whether it was Adam-centric or Bandom or something else entirely. I've repressed the memory.

I've always wanted to helpfully slip some links to the people who write like that, but there's really no polite way to do it. Not unless you know them well, and if you did... well, you'd have been able to help them already.

With the D/s, I sometimes feel a little cheated if we don't get to see the negotiations and all the build-up. It depends on the story, obviously, but I can't help but have a soft spot for those things. As for bad Doms, I think stories that handle the fall-out from that, and include the way things should be (later in one character's life for example) can be really amazing. I had hearts in my eyes when I read that one that Minxie did.

It's great to be able to pinpoint exactly WHY you like someone's work with memes like this. :D
