Meme: 50 Things About Me
Jul. 14th, 2010 01:08 amOk, I really am bored today. And so many people on my list were doing this that I felt like I should reveal some stuff about me too to make it fair. :) (I think some of these might just end up being little mini rants, sorry about that!)
1. My real name is Veronica. One of my middle names is Inga - which makes it funny when people do the "I'm Inga from Sweden" skit. (You know, from Trading Places)
2. I was born in Sweden. I moved to Ireland when I was 14 and lived there for 10 years, before moving to England for a year and at the moment I live in The Netherlands. I consider Ireland home and have every intention to return there to live one day.
3. Even though Swedish is my mothertongue, I speak and write more fluently in English. I've also studied French and Spanish though both are a very rusty, and I'm starting to pick up some basic Dutch. I always wanted to be able to communicate in more languages but I'm too unfocused to actually learn them properly. :(
4. I made up stories to tell my mum at bedtime even before I could write. I wrote my first poem when I was 7 - it was about a cat that wore a hat. :P
5. The first word I ever said was "Kaka" which means "Cake" in Swedish. I said it when my uncle came over with a box from the bakery.
6. I studied Sociology and Biblical & Theological Studies in University. I am not religious, but I found it really interesting to study Theology all the same.
7. My favourite subjects at school were History and English.
8. I played Piano as a child and really want to pick it back up. I also want to learn to play guitar. And I always wanted to know if I would be any good at drums!
9. My first ever pet was a budgie named Knut who I got when I was 6.
10. I really love Eddie Murphy. Not the I'm attracted to him way - I just think he is really funny. Though I really prefer his older movies to the new stuff.
11. I have two half sisters - one younger on my mother's sde and one older on my father's side. I grew up with my little sister and we are really close. I have never met my older sister, but I really want to work up the courage to try and get in touch with her one day. (If you thought that piece of info about my family was complicated to follow, you don't even want me to start on any of the rest!)
12. My favoruite colour is purple.
13. I have my ears pierced but no other piercings and tattoos. I would like to have a tattoo in memory of my grandfather, but I faint really easily (I almost fainted having my ears pierced!) so I'm too scared.
14. I still have two irrational fears from when I was a child - the first is that there will be someone under my bed pulling my legs when I stand beside it at night, the second is that there can be something in the toilet that might bite me when I sit down. I can't seem to shake either.
15. I am also super scared of heights and scared of being alone in the dark (if I'm home alone at night I have to sleep with the light on). And I hate going alone in elevators. Actually, I'm kind of scaredycat. xD
16. A few years ago one of my exes made me start playing World of Warcraft with him. He later dumped me because I got better at the game than he was (he was an ass anyway so it wasn't a big loss!). I don't play the game anymore, but this is still the funniest reason anyone has ever given for breaking up with me!
17. I love glam rock. Actually I'm quite into 60s and 70s music overall, which is what my mum raised me on.
18. I'm secretly jealous of my sister because she is great at drawing and painting and I am not. I did however take Art class in school anyway and ended up with a B on my final exam which I am really proud of!
19. I love Disney films. The first one I ever saw was The Jungle Book. The first one I ever owned was The Little Mermaid (I was 8 at the time and I had a crush on Prince Eric.) My favourite one is Beauty and the Beast. Most Disney movies still make me cry.
20. My first celebrity crush was Zack Morris from Saved By the Bell. My second was Elijah Wood (I watched Flipper A LOT :P) My third was Taylor Hanson. ^^
21. I love the perfume Angel by Thierry Muglier, I own the original as well as the Rose, Peony, Violet and Lily variants. It's the only perfume I wear.
22. I love working in retail. I have worked in a perfume shop and two pound shops. Because I did well at school people keep expecting me to get a "better job" - but I want to stay in retail. My ultimate dream is to one day open a little second hand bookshop or giftshop.
23. On the subject of careers, I have never been particularly driven and would be perfectly happy staying home with children. Actually, I secretly hope that when I find my life partner they will be someone who is happy being the breadwinner. If I can have more wishes I would quite like to be able to make a bit of money through my writing, from home. ^^
24. I've wanted to adopt at least one of my children since I was 12 and saw a documentary on TV about chinese orphanages.
25. I have always been a bookworm. When I was 11 there was a library thing for the summer where you kept track of the books you read from the library. I read 31 books that summer. Needless to say, the librarian loved me. ^^
26. The one movie/ book that have touched me the most is Gorillas in the Mist. I have donated to the Diane Fossey fund because of it.
27. I loved watching musicals as a child. My favourites were Sound of Music, Grease and Showboat. Actually, I still love musicals, but I'm not quite that obsessed anymore!
28. I hate when people use "thunk" instead of "thought". Otherwise I amnt much of a grammar nazi (though I hate chatspeak) - but that is really one of my petpeeves. And yes, I know that in some dialects it is used as the past tense of think (and mentioned in Webster's as such), but it still annoys me. :P
29. Although not religious, I am spiritual. I don't like organized religion. I find it wrong that some people should be able to decide how and what other's should believe. I also don't believe in the whole idea of sin and hell - to me this is just a way for people of the church to control each followers by inventing possible punishments for disobedience. I think everyone should be able to shape their own faith to what fits them - in my opinion your faith should be something that makes you feel strong and helps you get through the dark times, not something that forces you to feel guilty about ridiculous things.
30. My favourite flowers are orchids, roses and forget-me-nots.
31. I love the smell of vanilla. I also love vanilla flavour.
32. I have been a Hanson fan since 1997. I hate when other people who have been fans since the start uses that fact to somehow argue that their opinions on Hanson are more valid than the opinions of newer fans. I also don't care when people make fun of Hanson or me for being a fan. I doubt Hanson need everyone to think they are talented to know that they are, and I sure as hell don't need anyone but myself to validate the music I listen to as being good.
33. Having said that, one of my major pet hates is when people pick the music they listen to to portray a certain image. You know, the people that only listen to obscure bands and if the band become popular they suddenly don't like them, even if the band still sounds the same? Seriously, I wish everyone was just brave enough to listen to whatever they want instead of feeling the need to listen to whatever they think will make them cool.
34. I have never tried any drugs. I have never even smoked a cigarette. I do drink, though I've never been really, really, drunk. None of that has ever held any appeal to me, and I am actually quite proud of myself for having said no to all that throughout my teenage years and never caving to peer pressure. I don't give a shit if other people want to do any of those things though, everyone makes their own choices. As long as people don't expect me to babysit them when they're too drunk to take care of themselves!
35. I love wearing skirts and dresses. I especially love gupsy skirts. Though most of the time I just wear jeans and a tshirt.
36. Although I have mostly dated men, I have expected my life partner to be a woman for a long time... but my mother still doesn't know that I have ever even dated a girl. (For some reason my mother find gay men ok but is seriously homophobic when it comes to gay women... :S) I have a romanticed belief that I will know I have found the right woman because she will make me brave enough to tell my mum... realistically, I think this may never happen and I might end up an old spinster. If I do, I want to be a crazy cat lady.
37. If I ever won the lotto I would buy an old period home, a car, donate money to some charities, and invest the rest in the independent music business. Seriously, there are so many great Indie bands out there, and I would love if I had enough money to back some of them.
38. I still feel like a 14 year old every time my twitter feed has a tweet from Hanson or the guys post on the forums or even just reading their blogs or watching their livestreams. Seriously, who would have guessed in their heyday that us fans would ever get this close to them. Actually, just the idea of twitter would have been alien back then! (I felt espcecially like a 14 year old the other week when Zac tweeted that he was listening to The Moody Blues and I was as well right at the same time, tehe.) You know what, I'm not even ashamed to admit that I am a total fangirl at times. :P
39. I am really shy when I first meet people. But I tend to get past it really quickly if I get on with someone. Once I do, I talk way too much and usually way too fast.
40. I'm uncomfortable at large gatherings - hence I am usually the person standing in a corner at parties, just observing everyone else. Usually I tend to try to get out of going to large parties if I can though.
41. The one housework thing I really hate is folding clean clothes. Hence they tend to just hang on the airer where I dry them until I want to use them.
42. I'm the kind of person who thrives in slight clutter, but also have things like my books and cds organized in certain orders. (My books from the highest to lowest because I like the clean line... my cds in alphabetical order by artist and then in release order if more than one by each artist....). I like to think that I live in an organized mess.
43. I am very, very impulsive. Which will explain why I fitted my whole life into a suitcase and moved to a country I had never even visted before. TWICE.
44. I'm not that into sweets and candy, I prefer to eat fruit. My mum loves telling the story of how as a 5 year old I asked to go to the shop to buy candy, but on the way through the shop I picked up a banana. When we get to the sweets I told her I didn't need any now "because I have my banana." I think this is the story from my childhood she teels the most!
45. When I was a child I loved pretending I was a pirate. I also liked to play shopowner and schoolteacher.
46. When I was around 7 I got a proper metal mechano. I loved it so much that I stayed up all night playing with it quite a few times!
47. If I ever have children I fully intend to let them be proper children - you know, jump in muddy puddles, jump on their beds, use the sofa cushions to build forts.... most of my friends with kids seem to excpect their kids to grow up too fast. I also don't beleve in differentiating between girls and boys toys (I HATE when people do!), so if my sons want to play with dolls and my girls want to play with action figures, they will be free to do so.
48. I hate being asked about favourite songs, books and movies. I have way to many that I love!
49. I love making my own milkshakes. My favourite flavour is Baileys. ^^
50. I am know having a minor panic, knowing that once I post this I am going to think of so many more things I could have said and really regret listing some of the things. Eveything I said is general knowledge among most my friends though, so I guess there shouldn't actually be anything to regret sharing! To make this a proper fact, I am cross posting this to my non-slash blog too. :P

Date: 2010-07-13 11:38 pm (UTC)But on the entertainment side? Eddie Murphy! Oh heck yes! A few weeks ago I had a "Beverly Hills Cop" marathon, watching the 3 films over a weekend, and then "48 Hrs." and "Another 48 Hrs."
Mark-Paul "Zack Morris" Gosselaar? Yeah, no question, he was HUGE among so many girls. I squee'd when I saw him years later in "Dead Man On Campus", jet-black died hair and all. Elijah Wood? I can get behind that too, one of my early crushes back in the day. Ah, early teenagehood. I used to (jokingly, even then) picture Taylor Hanson and Elijah getting into a fight over which of them would get to date me, rofl. And I don't mind admitting one of my first girl-crushes was on his "Flipper" co-star; her name is Jessica Wesson, the blonde! That movie isn't exactly high art, but it is what it is; the ocean photography is beautiful too, everything looks so blue and sparkling-sunny.

Lol at Taylor and Elihah fighting, awesome. :D And yes Jessica Watson was cute too. I actually have no idea who my first girl crush was though? I think I paid less attention to it since I assumed at that age that it was only possible to crush on guys...

Date: 2010-07-14 12:19 am (UTC)I sort of feel that women today are expected to have careers, that just because we are now equal to men it somehow makes us lesser women if we can actually be fulfilled by taking on a traditional role of a mother and wife. And that makes me sad.
